Launched in Britain in 2012, the Vauxhall Mokka is a spacious Sports Utility Vehicle. It came at a time when the average saloon or estate car was simply not enough for the everchanging perfect family car. Since then, it seems the SUV is now the stand out favourite when it comes to choosing the perfect family car.
The chunky looks are similar to the appearance of a typical 4x4, just a bit softer. The Mokka is a great alternative in the family car segment, although the Mokka is not just ideal for families. Its practical load space and sporty looks are also ideal for those with an active lifestyle. The Mokka feels as much at home doing the school run as it does trekking down a country lane in search for the perfect mountain bike track! It doesn’t look out of place on the city streets either.
First generation models are fairly reserved in their styling and follow a now familiar SUV appearance; raised ride height, chunky body styling, roof bars and smooth lines. From 2016, the Mokka was known as the Mokka X.
Styling is much sharper on the Mokka X, without being unrecognisable in reference to the original Mokka. A more dynamic front grille and headlight set-up have helped the Mokka X look a lot more sophisticated and sharper.
As a Sports Utility Vehicle you would expect a decent amount of space. The Mokka certainly delivers.
Five people can enjoy plenty of space and comfort, along with a decent boot space too, with folding rear seats for the ability to increase load space and practicality. Controls are familiar and easy to use/navigate, if at first it can seem overwhelming due to Vauxhall placing a fair few buttons on the centre console.
That said, the interior is impressively robust and will make family life that little bit easier in the process, along with welcoming sports lifestyle equipment effortlessly.
In typical Vauxhall fashion, the Mokka is wonderfully easy to drive. Because there are both manual and automatic transmission options, it will also appeal to a number of drivers who prefer the driving pleasure and familiarity of a manual, or the ease of an automatic.
With 5-doors and a big boot, the Mokka is spot on for those wanting a properly practical SUV. It really is a textbook offering for those wanting the big-car looks and feel, but not the unattractive running costs or purchase price.
The Mokka has the chunky SUV looks that today’s modern-day family car buyer desires. Despite the 4x4 looks, the Mokka isn’t an out and out off-roader, but models with optional all-wheel drive will be pretty useful when it comes to the winter months and is also ultra-useful for getting to places off the beaten track, to partake in multiple sports that fit specific lifestyles.
As standard, the Mokka has an impressive standard specification. In entry-level trim you take advantage of air-con, DAB radio, cruise control, aux connection, folding rear seats and an alarm. Satellite-navigation, parking sensors and sports trim are available in higher specced models.
Petrol and diesel engines are available in the Mokka range. With great economy which ranges from around 40mpg all the way up to 70mpg – ultra-impressive considering the enhanced size of this fashionable SUV.
