Book an MOT

VOSA approved MOT testing

All of our CarStore Centres are approved VOSA MOT Test Centres. If your car is over 3 years old then it is a legal requirement to have an MOT test carried out each year. We appreciate an MOT can be a stressful time, which is why we do our best to make the process as seamless as possible.

We have an online booking tool where you can arrange an MOT at your nearest CarStore Centre on a date that suits you.

If your car fails its MOT we will be able to carry out the majority of repairs on site on the same day to ensure that the car is back on the road as soon as possible.

MOT Preparation Tips

Here are some of the common failure areas to be mindful of and to get fixed for safety reasons, instead of waiting for the MOT due date:

  • Tyres: The legal tread depth for tyres is 1.6mm, so it's worth making sure they meet that standard. We also recommend looking for any bulges or nails, which will be flagged on an MOT.
  • Lightbulbs: We recommend turning all the lights on to make sure they're working. You may need a friend or family member to help with brake lights, but it'll be worth the effort.
  • Fluid levels: It doesn't take long to check things like the windscreen washer fluid, so making sure they're topped up could save you a headache later on.
  • Windscreen: Any excessive cracks in the windscreen will fail an MOT, while chips in the driver's eye-line will be flagged. Most insurance policies offer discounted windscreen repairs and replacements, so we'd recommend taking them up on it if required.

If your car fails the MOT, we can carry out all rectification work for you and re-test it free of charge to get the MOT pass.

Frequently Asked Questions

When do I need an MOT?

Your car's current MOT certificate will have an expiry date, meaning you need to have a fresh MOT completed on or before that date.

The expiry date will be on the certificate from your previous MOT. However, you can enter your car's registration number on this government website tool to find out when it expires, too.

Leaving things to the last minute can be stressful. It’s worth noting an MOT test can be post dated up to 28 days before it’s due date so it’s worth booking in early to save yourself any hassle.

Why do I need an MOT?

Essentially, the MOT is designed to ensure cars using public roads are safe for both the driver and other motorists.

An MOT is only needed if your car is over three years old, then it becomes a legal requirement to have an MOT test completed every 12 months. Without an MOT, your car is not roadworthy, and you won't be able to tax your car.

How long does an MOT take?

An MOT takes about 40 to 60 minutes, and that's because the MOT tester needs to check all the components of your car and then complete an emissions test.

What does MOT stand for?

MOT stands for Ministry of Transport. So technically, it should be called an MOT Test and not just an MOT.

CarStore Aftercare Price Match

While our aim is to ensure you're getting work completed by qualified technicians to a high standard, we also want to make sure you're not overpaying for the privilege.

That's where our price match guarantee comes in. If you find the same service or repair at a different garage within a five-mile radius, then we'll match the price you've been given.

If you've already had the service or repair completed, then we'll refund you the difference.
