Mercedes-Benz make a number of premium SUVs. The GLC is based on the ultra-successful C-Class saloon, hence the clever use of the C in its name. With such a strong foundation, you know you're onto a winner. Just like the saloon car, the Mercedes-Benz GLC sits in the middle of the range but rest assured, you still get the premium, impressive fit and finish of a Mercedes-Benz car. There is also plenty of space considering it's not the biggest, or smallest SUV in the range. It looks great, sophisticated and classy, just like a Mercedes-Benz should be - especially in AMG Line and full-on AMG trim lines.
Smart and sophisticated. There is no mistaking the elegance and presence of a Mercedes-Benz. The GLC may not be the range-topping SUV, but it is arguably the prettiest SUV. Unlike the GLC Coupe SUV, which is designed to be noticed, thanks to its unique body, the GLC just looks right without trying too hard. It's a handsome SUV and may well be the best-looking out of this segment in the SUV game. A prominent front radiator grille, dynamic front bumper design, tinted glass and roof, and chrome details all add-up for a lesson to other manufacturers in how to make an SUV look good, without going OTT!
InteriorA spacious interior awaits those who climb aboard the premium GLC. Spacious is one thing, but the GLC also delivers in the quality department, with lots of premium material choice and an ambiance that oozes luxury and solid feel. Brushed and gloss black is used a lot, which gives a superb level of class and prestige. The air vents, dials and switchgear are laid out beautifully and the whole interior experience is as expected with a brand like Mercedes-Benz.
Not all SUVs shine when it comes to driving experience. Their high-ride can leave them at somewhat of a disadvantage compared to your average family saloon, but then not every SUV is a Mercedes-Benz. The GLC is a delight to drive - relaxing and comforting for the whole family, or ultra-dynamic in AMG versions, which also feature a distinct AMG bark from the engine and exhausts. Depending on your needs you can tailor the spec to your own unique driving style.
As an alternative to the average family, albeit a premium alternative, the GLC offers bucket loads of room and storage space throughout the cabin, along with a decent sized boot - with the bonus of rear seats that fold with ease. Five adults can fit quite simply, however, with most cars the middle rear seat does feature less leg room, but it's not bad really. Door pockets are huge too, so there is plenty of space to store all of your belongings, or someone else's!
Engines and transmissions
A 2.2-litre diesel kicks off the range, followed by a smaller 2.0-litre and 3.0-litre diesel too. Economy therefore is pretty good, despite its SUV size with between 30-56 mpg achievable - dependent on engine choice and how heavy your right foot is! In true fashion, the petrol engines are a tad more thirsty with a 2.0-litre petrol offering around 35 mpg, whilst the beastly 4.0-litre found in the AMG S will reach just over 20 mpg. But you won't care about mpg with the joy you get from owning an AMG.
Mercedes-Benz have become a lot more attainable in recent years. The class is still there but like most cars, specification can make or break a car. The GLC will appeal to executives with a small family, or even single executives who lust after a higher driving position and the appeal of an SUV, with the renowned Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star. Enthusiast drivers will enjoy the dynamics of AMG models, whilst those who love a sharp design, without the expensive running costs and AMG power, will favour the AMG-Line.Used Mercedes-Benz GLC for sale
