First entering the UK market in 2014, the Ford EcoSport is a pint-sized SUV with a fun, cheeky character. Its small footprint on the road makes it manoeuvrable and easy to navigate through city streets, but its taller body shape means that practicality is much better than your average supermini in terms of roominess and boot space.
First sold officially on these shores from 2014-2017, the first generation EcoSport had a chunky off-road look to it, with SUV-appropriate styling touches such as the extended wheel arches, rear-mounted spare tyre and front/rear bumper guards.
The looks were heavily revised for the 2017 model, bringing it right up to date and in line with the looks of other modern Fords – it’s *almost* unrecognisable to the original.
The 2014-2017 EcoSports had pretty much the exact same interior as the Fiesta of the time – this is no bad thing. Easily laid out controls and comfy seats, as well as plenty of standard specification, are just some of the virtues of the EcoSport’s interior. Where it does differ from the Fiesta is in its taller proportions giving the interior a roomier feel.
The driving experience is pretty similar to the Fiesta as well – fun and capable but also easy to manoeuvre. The raised driving position in the taller EcoSport gives you the advantage of being able to see the world around you a bit better than in a regular hatchback.
Designed as a more practical alternative to the Fiesta, the EcoSport has a larger boot and a handy side-opening rear tailgate that gives you a much wider opening than in some other cars, and it makes loading shopping bags or pets really easy. 5 seats means 2 adults and 2 kids will fit inside easily, and there’s even room for a friend.
Families who enjoy an adventure will appreciate all of the advantages of the Ford EcoSport – its fun looks, roomy interior and cheeky character all fit well with everyday family life. The off-road credentials aren’t really a priority for the EcoSport, though in 2017 the option of a 4-wheel-drive model was added.
All used Ford EcoSports come with alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and air con, plus electric mirrors and windows as standard. Titanium models add roof rails and automatic climate control – look out for examples that have the optional sat nav, too. Later model ST-Line EcoSports really do look the part, with a two-tone exterior and stylish wheels.
Used EcoSports give you the choice of 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol or 1.5-litre TDCi diesel engines. Go for the petrol if you spend most of your time doing short journeys in and around town – the diesel is much better suited to long-distances and will reward you with great economy on the motorway.Search Ford Ecosport
